Today about 60 cyclists (connected and brought together by a Facebook posting) joined up to ride for a charitable cause, to collect funds for the Home for the Mentally Retarded and Handicapped in Taman Bandar Mahkota, Banting. The cyclists were kindly assisted by a group of 20 ride marshals on motorcycles and cars helping to ensure the safety of the participating cyclists, as young as 12 years old and as old as 57.
This charity ride event was independently organized by cyclists for cyclists and their family members; no jerseys, no registration fees, no corporate sponsors, no huge mock cheques, no political speeches; just an honest to goodness intention to do a bit of good in this world. The idea was simple, each cyclist to donate just RM1(about USD 30 cents) for the underprivileged. The cyclists gave generously that by the time we handed over the collection, RM3200 was in the donation box.
It’s not the amount that matters, the take away is that, if one cares enough to make a difference be it in society or others and actually do something about it, it will get done.
In each one of us, we have the capacity to do good. That raised a lot of smiles today 🙂
