Last Sunday, 6th October 2013 I had the privilege to participate in an event called “Ride with the Legends” organized by Bermaz Motor, the Malaysian franchise-owner of Mazda vehicles. The family fun ride was for a distance of 30km starting from the Mazda showroom at Glenmarie passing through Subang Parade, Sunway Pyramid with a stop-over at Bukit Gasing in Petaling Jaya and back to Glenmarie via the Federal Highway.
This riding event was created to celebrate past Malaysian cyclists who had done the country proud at the SEAP, SEA, Asian and Olympics games. Names like Shaharudin Jaffar, Ng Joo Pong, Yahya Ahmad may not ring any bells to today’s cyclists. I supposed in the recent euphoria over the achievements of younger generation of cyclists like Azizul Hasni, people had forgotten that Malaysia had other cycling greats, Olympians and even a double Olympians (Ng Joo Pong) .

It was a lesson in cycling history for me who until that day was quite unaware who these gentlemen are. My hats off to these gentlemen who, already in their of late 60s and 70s, look fits and always smiling when they are cycling.
